Trying something new

People are always coming up to me and saying " I found these really great instructions on how to ( do whatever) on the internet. What do you think of them? " All to often my response is " they look great except for one thing, they're wrong! " My response generally angers the person who took all the time to look up the information. More than one person has told me " well if you know so much more than this expert author why don't write the right way to do it? " So after years of hearing this from friends and family I'm finally going to give this a try.

One thing most people don't realize is that most expert authors are just that, experts at writing books and articles. Now there is nothing wrong with regurgitating information to make a buck, but how can you tell if the information is correct if you don't have any real experience. Grammar just aint that important to building a house.

My experience is in construction. My grandfather was a general contractor, My dad and most of my uncles were in the skilled trades and I've owned my own construction company in one form or another for the last 20 years. I'm not much on writing but I figure it's a skill like anything else and with practice comes competence and speed. I may even start typing with more than two fingers. With some editorial help I might even be able to turn the posts here into some good looking how to articles.
